Qualifications For Unemployment :: Updated: Number of individuals who have run out of benefits is now over 569,000. – Recent federal legislation introduced in ovember 2011 would provide an additional year to access current federal unemployment extension benefits. However, the proposed legislation does not include dditional weeks of benefits to increase the maximum of up to 99 weeks of benefits that are available now. Legislation is currently being considered by Congress and will require members approval if it is to become law. A regular claim provides up to 26 weeks of benefits and federal extension benefits provide up to another 73 weeks of benefits, provided by the federal government due to the length and severity of the economic recession.

These benefits provide critical sustenance to unemployed workers and their families, in addition to local businesses where much of the benefits are spent on basic needs. For now, the deadline for starting any new federal extension claim is coming up at the end of 2011. Meanwhile, here are the details on what is currently being offered in federal unemployment extension benefits.
